Newsletter No. 5 for 2021

Drummer Art Blakey sat in part shadeWelcome to our fifth e-newsletter of 2021 with news for our followers and lovers of all things jazz.  Sign up to automatically receive our free monthly emails with news about the Archive.

We are pleased to announce a partnership with broadcaster Jazz FM, who will be using some of the recorded interviews by the late journalist Les Tomkins, who bequeathed his unique and extensive collection to the National Jazz Archive. You can read more about which jazz greats will be featured in this three-part series in the lead article of our newsletter and accessible from the link below. It starts this Sunday at 9pm and features jazz drummer and co-founder of the Jazz Messengers, Art Blakey.

The photograph of Blakey is by photographer Brian O'Connor and was taken at Ronnie Scott's in 1983. Read the latest e-newsletter.

We also have news about the planned changes to the Library in Loughton, which is home to the Archive, thanks to the generosity of Essex County Council. There is advance notice about up-coming events, which we hope to confirm in the near future, so please put a placeholder in your diaries.

You can read a summary of our latest articles (Parts 2 and 3 of the 'Top 10 questions asked about jazz'), which are available to read online, plus details of a concert available to see online by our Ambassador, clarinettist Adrian Cox. You can also read about a new book celebrating London's famous 100 Club, which has been edited by the National Jazz Archive founder, Digby Fairweather.

Also included in the newsletter is an update for visitors following changes to Government COVID 19 restrictions.
