Our Ambassadors

The National Jazz Archive is supported by some of the UK's most eminent contemporary jazz artists and related organisations.

New for 2020 is our Ambassadors programme. This has been launched with the aim of promoting the role of the Archive to a wider community of jazz enthusiasts using the support of our Ambassadors.

They would love to hear from you through their various social media channels.

Clare Teal

Clare Teal is a singer and broadcaster who is famous not only for her singing, but also for having signed the biggest recording contract by a British jazz singer.

'I have really enjoyed lending my support to the National Jazz Archive as one of its patrons. So I was thrilled when they asked if I would be one of their first Ambassadors. Promoting the brilliant work they do in securing the development of jazz in the UK will be a delight. Introducing the historic record the Archive holds to new young jazzers is very important to me.'

Adrian Cox

Adrian Cox is 36, and is already an artist with a story to tell. Adrian started playing clarinet aged six, by age 15 he had left home to become a professional musician, playing hundreds of shows a year ever since.

'When I first visited the National Jazz Archive at Loughton I was amazed at the sheer quantity of resources available. Having  a readily available record of jazz in the UK is such a valuable thing. As a musician moving forwards in jazz it is important to be able to look back. I thank all the volunteers who enable this, they do a superb job. I am really happy to add my support as an Ambassador'.

Adrian has honed his talent with a whole range of musicians, playing jazz, blues, funk and ska, but jazz has been the defining sound.

Adrian played with Kansas Smitty’s House Band from 2016 to 2018, writing and performing original music with them. He has appeared at The Royal Albert Hall performing with Paloma Faith, Guy Barker and Clare Teal for the Big Band Christmas 2018. Adrian joined Wynton Masalis ‘Jazz at the Lincoln Center’ at the Barbican in London and was invited to perform in New York in 2018.

This high-profile support, and a rising number of loyal fans, has meant some very successful albums and tours. Adrian is now taking more time to write and perform original music. 2020 has seen the release of a new album of original music Now is Spring.
