Paintings, Drawings & Cartoons
We hold an extensive collection of paintings, drawing and cartoons. The work of preserving, cataloguing and digitising this growing body of work is ongoing.
You can explore here a sample selected from items digitised as part of the Heritage Lottery funded Story of British Jazz project. They are drawn from journals and concert programmes published between 1933 – 1975.
They include caricatures by well-known musicians such as Humphrey Lyttelton and Wally Fawkes (‘Trog’), illustrations accompanying magazine articles and programmes, and cartoons in adverts for records, shops and concerts.
Simply scroll through to find the person, style or period you are interested in, or search for painting, drawing or cartoon to widen your search among all the Archive’s digitised materials.
Suggestions for related collections are included below each item.
All reasonable efforts have been made to ensure that any intellectual property rights in the journals and images displayed have not been infringed. If you do not believe this to be the case then please contact us. Due to copyright restrictions, some digitised items cannot be viewed over the internet: these are indicated by the National Jazz Archive logo. However, you can view them online by visiting the Archive.
