  • This collection consists of a correspondence between the donor, James Hall Thomson, and Charles Elsworth 'Pee Wee' Russell (1906-1969), a jazz clarinetist and saxophonist. The correspondence spans the years 1958-1966 and contains references to Pee Wee's recording with Red Nicholls at Brunswick Studios New York, an upcoming recording on the Candid label with Coleman Hawkins, wanting to visit the UK to play but being concerned about a lack of work permit and congratulating John Hall Thomson on his wedding, among many other subjects. The collection also contains letters from Mary Russell, Pee Wee's wife along with press-cuttings, programmes and photos relating to Russell.,,
