  • Personal letter enquiring after Renee's health. The second item - assumed to have held another enclosed object - says that 'This is the only object I can find at the moment'. Hawkins used to use this object in his dress shirts when he was with 'Fletcher' (Henderson). He's sending this object to Renee as a love token. A later letter (see NJA/C/DIA/COR/53) suggests that this is a dress shirt stud.,,

    Format notes: Plain envelope containing two items. The first is the letter, a single sheet of deckle edged paper, folded and double sided to form four numbered pages. Headed Empire Theatre, Leeds but envelope postmarked Sheffield. Sent to 34, The Avenue, Brondesbury, London, NW6. No date. Letter signed 'C'. The second item is a single sheet of deckle edged paper of a much lighter colour. this is folded - landscape - to form four pages - only one bears any writing. From the text and the folding the inference is that something else (which is not present) was held within this item. This item also signed 'C'.
