Arts Council of Great Britain Tours
One of the collections the Archive has is of promotional posters for the Arts Council of Great Britain Tours. In 1971 the Arts Council of Great Britain set up The Contemporary Music Network with the aim of increasing the number of performances of contemporary works throughout the UK, particularly outside London.
Jazz performances played a large part in these tours and venues included Gateshead Leisure Centre, Southill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell and the Leadmill in Sheffield. As well as the George Russell Orchestra and the John Surman Brass Project, other artists to have played include the Jan Garbarek Quartet, Anthony Braxton Quartet, Don Cherry's Nu, Dave Holland Quintet, United Jazz and Rock Ensemble, Stan Tracey's Orchestra and Jazz Warriors.
