John Watson

John Watson is a British freelance photographer and writer, specialising in music.

His first national magazine article, on the Savoy recordings of Charlie Parker, was published when he was just 15 years old, and since becoming a professional journalist he has interviewed countless stars for newspapers and magazines - among them Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Gil Evans, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter and Michael Brecker.

Photographer John Watson holding a cameraHis photographs have been seen in magazines around the world, and in exhibitions including the World Jazz Photo show in St Petersburg, the Belgrade and Pancevo jazz festivals in Serbia, the EFG London Jazz Festival, and Symphony Hall, Birmingham.

Watson’s work has also been published in many books including Alyn Shipton’s 'The art of jazz', Vojislav Pantic’s 'Jazz face', and his own critically acclaimed photography book 'The power of jazz'.

He has been nominated three times for photography in the Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) Jazz Awards, hosted in New York.
