Jenny Golden

Colour head and shoulder image of Jenny GoldenJenny Golden is both a Trustee and a representative of the hard working volunteers for the archive who provide vital expertise and effort towards the sharing, conservation, access and cataloguing of the archive material.

A Trustee since 2024, Jenny is a Sociology graduate and has a background in publishing, research, writing, archive administration and trade union work.

In her early working life, Jenny was responsible for the photographic collection of the London Borough of Hackney's Archive Department where, amongst other work, she researched and curated an exhibition into the 1888 Matchgirls' strike and wrote books related to the history of Hackney.

Her latter career included working for the University and College Union (UCU) as a Regional Officer for higher education where her responsibilities related to advocacy and employment law, especially that relating to the equality agenda.

Following early retirement, Jenny has worked for the celebrated Marx Memorial Library and Worker School, where she developed their photographic collection and contributed to book cataloguing. Since retiring she also started volunteering for the National Jazz Archive, where she is now one of our longest standing volunteers.

From 2018 Jenny has been involved with a range of our archive activities including, most notably, the cataloguing of the photographs taken by Brian Foskett, which is one of our most important photographic collections. This has included the digitisation and cataloguing of over 7000 historically significant images.

As one of the team of Trustees, Jenny has a unique perspective of the work of the volunteers and the regular work undertaken.
